The Dutch National Opera broadcasts ‘Wozzeck’ May 3

On Sunday, May 3, the Dutch National Opera will broadcast Krzysztof Warlikowski’s engrossing production of Berg’s Wozzeck. Starring Christopher Maltman in his title role debut, the performance received critical acclaim with Bachtrack lauding:

Christopher Maltman and Eva-Maria Westbroek made impressive role debuts as Wozzeck and Marie. Maltman sang evenly and tautly and cut a piteous figure. Stiff and awkward, he moved as if trapped in his own body. Moments of pathos were rare – Maltman’s Wozzeck was driven by terror and stewing violence from the start.

Wozzeck was recorded and released by Naxos on DVD & Blu-ray, and it went on to be nominated for the “Best Opera Recording” Grammy Award. The recording of Wozzeck is available for free on May 3 via the DNO’s website and YouTube channel. The recording will be available for a week.
