‘Die Walküre’ at Teatro di San Carlo

This April, Christopher Maltman makes a thrilling role and house debut as Wotan in Die Walküre at Teatro di San Carlo under the baton of the theatre’s music director, Dan Ettinger. He recently made another Wagnerian debut as Amfortas in Parsifal at Grand Théâtre de Genève this past January.

Federico Tiezzi’s production features set design by Giulio Paolini and costumes by Giovanna Buzzi who together won a Franco Abbiati Prize for their work on the opera in 2005, the most prestigious annual award given in Italy in the field of music. The all-star cast also includes Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund, Okka von der Damerau as Brünnhilde, John Relyea as Hunding, Vida Miknevičiūtė as Sieglinde, Varduhi Abrahamyan as Fricka, Nina-Maria Fischer as Gerhilde, Miriam Clark as Ortlinde,  Margerita Gritskova as Waltraute, Christel Loetzsch as Schwertleite, Regine Hangler as Helmwige, Julia Rutigliano as Siegrune, Edna Prochnik as Grimgerde and Marie-Luise Dreßen as Rossweisse.

Performances are on April 16, 20, 23, 26, and 29.
