New production of Leoncavallo’s ‘Zazà’ at Theater an der Wien
Christopher Maltman begins the 2020/21 season at the Theater an der Wien as Cascart in a new production of Leoncavallo’s rarely-performed Zazà. Based on the smash-hit play by Pierre Breton and Charles Simon, Zazà is a verismo tale of music hall singer Zazà, who’s relationship collapses when she discovers her lover is married.
Performances will take place on September 16, 18, 21, 23, 25 & 27. This new production of Zazà by Christof Loy features a star-studded international cast including Svetlana Aksenova as the title role, Nikolai Schukoff as Milio Dufresne, Dorothea Herbert as Floriana / Signora Dufresne, Enkelejda Shkosa as Anaide / Zazàs mother, Juliette Mars as Natalia/ Zazàs maid, and Tobias Greenhalgh as Bussy / Journalist, among others. Stefan Soltész conducts the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien and the Arnold Schoenberg Chor.
