‘Das Lied von der Erde’ with Stuttgart Philharmonic

On October 19, Christopher Maltman shares the stage with the Stuttgart Philharmonic and tenor Attilio Glaser for Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, guided by the orchestra’s chief conductor, Dan Ettinger. This symphonic masterpiece by Gustav Mahler draws profound inspiration from classical Chinese poetry, notably the works of Li Bai and Wang Wei, forging a harmonious union between Western and Asian artistic traditions. It eloquently explores the timeless themes of nature and transcendence, creating a unique bridge between Western music and the profound imagery of Asian verse. Adding an enchanting dimension to the performance, traditional Chinese music will grace the interludes, courtesy of the talents of Ye Táo on the Dizi, Xu Fengxia on the Guzheng, and Ya Dong playing the Pipa.
