‘Tosca’ at Staatsoper Berlin

On March 1, 3, 7 and 10, Christopher Maltman makes his highly anticipated debut as the villainous Scarpia in Tosca at Staatsoper Berlin. The iconic opera masterpiece by Giacomo Puccini tells a gripping tale of betrayal, passion, and sacrifice set against the backdrop of political turmoil in Napoleonic Rome. In Berlin, Alvis Hermanis’ production of Tosca has garnered praise for its bold reinterpretation, combining modern theatrical techniques such as videography with a deep understanding of the opera’s historical context.

The stellar cast for these performances also includes Maria Agresta as Tosca, Michael Fabiano as Cavaradossi, Friedrich Hamel as Angelotti, Jan Martiník as Sacristan, Johan Krogius as Spoletta, Dionysios Avgerinos as Sciarrone, and Taehan Kim as Jailer. Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts.
