‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ at Staatsoper Berlin
This December, Christopher Maltman will make his highly anticipated role debut as Hans Sachs in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Staatsoper Berlin. Performances are scheduled for December 1, 8, 15, and 22.
A tale of love, art, and tradition, Wagner’s masterpiece follows the story of a young knight, Walther von Stolzing, as he navigates the world of the Mastersingers to win the love of Eva, the goldsmith’s daughter, with the guidance of the wise and kind-hearted Hans Sachs.
Under the baton of Alexander Soddy, this modern production of the famed work is directed by Andrea Moses, with scenic preparation by Reyna Bruns, set design by Jan Pappelbaum, costumes by Adriana Braga Peretzki, and lighting by Olaf Freese.
Joining Mr. Maltman in this production is an exceptional cast, including Christof Fischesser as Veit Pogner, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller as Eva, Klaus Florian Vogt as Walther von Stolzing, Siyabonga Maqungo as David, and Katharina Kammerloher as Magdalene. The ensemble also features Tansel Akzeybek as Kunz Vogelgesang, Jaka Mihelač as Konrad Nachtigall, Martin Gantner as Sixtus Beckmesser, Jan Martiník as Fritz Kothner, Siegfried Jerusalem as Balthasar Zorn, Paul McNamara as Ulrich Eißlinger, Florian Hoffmann as Augustin Moser, David Oštrek as Hermann Ortel, Richard Wiegold as Hans Schwarz, Olaf Bär as Hans Foltz, and Friedrich Hamel as the Nachtwächter.
