Role Debut in ‘Siegfried’ at Royal Ballet and Opera
This March, Christopher Maltman returns to Covent Garden, making his role debut as Der Wanderer in Wagner’s Siegfried. Maltman has already received rave reviews for his “exceptionally nuanced and multifaceted” (Seen and Heard International) Wotan in Royal Opera’s Die Walküre (2025) and Das Rheingold (2023), and will once again collaborate with director Barrie Kosky and conductor Sir Antonio Pappano for the third chapter of Wagner’s Ring cycle.
Maltman joins an exceptional cast of Wagnerians, reuniting with several artists from the first two installments of Royal Opera’s Ring. Andreas Schager sings the title role, with Peter Hoare as Mime, Elisabet Strid as Brünnhilde, Christopher Purves as Alberich, Soloman Howard as Fafner, Wiebke Lehmkuhl as Erda, and Sarah Dufresne as the Woodbird.
Maltman sings Der Wanderer March 17, 24, 28, 31, and April 6.
