‘Tosca’ in Vienna
This April, Christopher Maltman returns to the Vienna Staatsoper, reprising his role as the villainous Baron Scarpia in Puccini’s taut political thriller, Tosca. A frequent guest of the Staatsoper, Maltman has appeared there in recent years in productions of Beethoven’s Fidelio, Bizet’s Carmen, as well as Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Don Giovanni. He will return later this spring as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte.
Maltman joins a star-studded cast in Margarethe Wallmann’s lush production, under the baton of Daniel Oren. Anna Netrebko sings the title role, with Ivan Gyngazov as Mario Cavaradossi, Clemens Unterreiner as Cesare Angelotti, and Dan Paul Dumitrescu as Il Sagrestano.
