RING Festival at Opéra national de Paris

This November, Christopher Maltman headlines the Opéra national de Paris’s monumental RING Festival 2026, starring as Wotan in both Das Rheingold and Die Walküre at the Opéra Bastille.

Conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and directed by Calixto Bieito, this innovative staging presents Wagner’s tetralogy through a contemporary lens focused on technological power, divine collapse, and human consequence. Maltman anchors the cycle’s first two installments, delivering his celebrated, psychologically layered portrayal of the sovereign god Wotan alongside the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris.

In Das Rheingold, Maltman leads a cast featuring mezzo-soprano Eve-Maud Hubeaux as Fricka, tenor Simon O’Neill as Loge, and baritone Brian Mulligan as Alberich, alongside contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Erda and basses Kwangchul Youn and Mika Kares as Fasolt and Fafner.

The saga continues with Die Walküre, where Maltman is joined by dramatic soprano Tamara Wilson as his rebellious daughter Brünnhilde and Eve-Maud Hubeaux reprising her role as Fricka. The tragic Wälsung twins are portrayed by tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac as Siegmund and soprano Elza van den Heever as Sieglinde, with bass Günther Groissböck rounding out the principal ensemble as Hunding.

Performances of Das Rheingold take place on November 6 and 15, followed by Die Walküre on November 7 and 17 at the Opéra Bastille.
