Debut in ‘Salome’ at Hamburg State Opera
This June, Christopher Maltman makes his house debut at the Hamburg State Opera, taking on the role of Jochanaan in Richard Strauss’s Salome for the first time in his career. Conducted by Alexander Soddy, the production is directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov, whose stark and psychologically charged staging brings a contemporary edge to Strauss’s searing one-act tragedy.
Maltman stars alongside Vida Miknevičiūtė in the title role, with Peter Hoare as Herodes, Claudia Mahnke as Herodias, Florian Panzieri as Narraboth, and Clare Presland as the Page.
Performances are scheduled for June 7, 12, 14, and 18.
