Role Debut as Don Pizarro in Beethoven’s ‘Fidelio’

On June 27 and 28, Christopher Maltman adds the villainous Don Pizarro in Beethoven’s Fidelio to his repertoire, debuting at South Korea’s Busan Concert Hall. The new concert hall opened last weekend with a program highlighting Beethoven’s masterworks, and Fidelio, performed in concert, will be the first opera to grace the hall’s stage.

Maltman joins an exceptional international cast, under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung, who is artistic director of the Busan Concert Hall. Tenor Bryan Register sings the imprisoned Florestan alongside soprano Hratchuhi Bassenz as his heroic wife, Leonore. Bass Wilhelm Schwinghammer sings the jailer, Rocco. The performance will feature the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Busan City Choir, and the National Choir.
